Corpus Christi took advantage of this opportunity and defeated the Wind Surge by a score of 7-3. The Hooks secured the series win tonight after winning four games to Wichita’s one.
The Wind Surge wasted no time and scored the first run of the ball game after just two at bats. Yoyner Fajardo hit a leadoff double in the first at bat and then Tanner Schobel hit a ground ball to right field for an RBI single.
Corpus Christi took the lead in the bottom of the second. The bases were loaded with no outs, and Chad Stevens hit a two RBI single. In the next at bat another two runs were driven in for the Hooks. Jordan Brewer hit an RBI single, and Stevens was able to reach home after a throwing error from center fielder Willie Joe Garry Jr. Kennedy Corona grounded out for the second out of the inning, but Brewer was able to reach home for the final run of the inning.
Garry Jr. drove in the second run for the Wind Surge in the top of the fourth. He hit a laser to left field for an RBI double and brought the Surge within three runs of the Hooks.
The Hooks extended their lead again the bottom of the sixth. Brewer’s second hit of the game flew over the left center field wall for a two-run home run.
Wichita tried to get a rally going late in the ball game. In the top of the eighth they chipped away at the Hooks lead with an RBI single from Alex Isola.
Travis Adams made his team leading 23rd start of the season for the Wind Surge. He pitched five innings where he gave up five runs off five hits. He struck out six batters and walked three more. He was credited with loss and his record falls to (4-10).
The Corpus Christi Hooks starting pitcher Angel Macuare pitched four innings where he gave up two runs off six hits. He struck out four batters and walked none.
The Wichita Wind Surge fall to (33-29, 61-69) and the Corpus Christi Hooks improve to (33-29, 66-65).
NOTES: Yoyner Fajardo extended his reached base streak to 24 consecutive games. The streak is the longest of any Wind Surge player this season. Dalton Shuffield’s six-game hit streak came to an end tonight. The Surge have left 38 men on base through the first five games of the series.
